Did you use the Solaris Compatibilty Tool (requires Java) from here:

That should tell you if you are using supported hardware.

If you are sure that you are using supported hardware, try adding the
verbose (-v) option to your GRUB boot command.

At the GRUB screen, select your preferred boot option and press the 'E' key
to allow editing of the boot command.  Append '-v' to it and follow the
onscreen instruction to apply the change and continue booting.  This way
you'll get better feedback about where your hang is occurring.
