Could you please confirm for me that the menu options actually read "OpenSolaris Express ..." and not "Solaris Express ..."? If so, that's a defect that I'll need to take up with the people responsible for this product; I was quite sure, however, that it correctly identifies itself as Solaris Express/Solaris Express Developer Edition. > i have spent hours searching for the differences of those two > versions but so far only understood the difference between the > community and developper editions. SXDE has a modified installer, and installs additional content (mainly developer tools) not actually a part of Solaris proper. The operating system itself is the same either way. > my question is, does the community edition refer to that second > choice "Open Solaris Express Edition" on the developper edition DVD > ? The "Solaris Express" option generally refers to the non-SXDE version, so yes. > I have noticed that we get a more elaborated GUI during the > installation of the OS on the "Developper Express" version, while > the "Express" version is a textmode UI. You can actually install regular SX/SXCE in graphical mode as well if you so choose, but SXDE has been modified to simplify installation as noted previously. > I will be finishing installation of the "Express" version tomorrow, > and am expecting to lack the whole gnome windowing system. Did you specifically choose not to install it? Otherwise it's there by default. Have you tried such an installation in the past and found that GNOME is not functional, or is there some other reason you have this expectation? -- Keith M Wesolowski "Sir, we're surrounded!"
