Like Richard Lowe said, the right thing to do is to find and fix the problem. See his post on how to best go down that road. The solution I provided you will not stop the system from dumping, it'll just keep the system from dumping to disk so that your not overflowing your disk every reboot/shutdown. I'm providing you with a band-aid to get out of the "rm -f /var/crash/hostname/*" every boot, not making the crashes go away. benr.
