It happened with both 2008.11 and the latest 2009.06 I think it is the whole network system that doesn't work, not only Firefox.
It's strange, the notification icon tells me that the IP address has been acquired from DHCP and everything is fine, but then nothing works. The same machine is running Ubuntu 8.10, which can access the network without problems. The live CD in Virtualbox (under Ubuntu on the same machine) works properly.
