I faced some issues with emacs-gtk as well, deleting SUNWgnu-emacs-gtk
and installing SUNWgnu-emacs, SUNWgnu-emacs-x and SUNWgnu-emacs-el
solved my problems.

This is error is probably based on a missing ~/.xmodmaprc and a wrong
default xorg.conf
Just create a ~/.xmodmaprc and a xorg.conf matching your keybord
requirements.
