Are you trying to do a native install? I have successfully used Mac OS X 10.5.6
with Virtualbox 2.2.4 on Mac Mini (Core Duo, 1st Intel generation, 1 GB RAM)
and my MacBook Pro (unibody, late 2008). If you max out your RAM, I know this
works. Use the 'install additions' after installing OpenSolaris 2009.06 to a
virtual hard disk (at least 10 GB). Once you install the additions (after
installing, VirtualBox additions installs automatically within OpenSolaris) and
you can get auto-scaling based on your hardware. I recommending increasing the
video RAM on virtualbox to the max that your Mini allows and enable 3d
acceleration. This allows you to overcome video issues.
If you want to install OpenSolaris natively, then, I really don't know how to
help... IMHO Mac OS X Leopard and OpenSolaris with VirtualBox makes a great
combo for dual platform development.
Hope this helps.
