Oke, i've tried all night to boot into the live-cd environment to install
OpenSolaris, without success. Instead, i get the console login screen. I login
with jack/jack.

When i do a svcs -vx, i see that a couple of services aren't running:

- application/graphical-login/gdm:default
- system/hal:default
- net/inetd-upgrade:default

I tried starting hal first by issuing: svcadm restart hal. This fails. I found
a post on the internet where someone tried to start hal manually:

/usr/lib/hal# ./hald --daemon=yes --use-syslog --verbose=yes

After running this command, svcs told me hal and gdm are online. I thought when
gdm got online, a gnome-session was supposed to start. This didn't happen.
Tried restarting gdm a couple of times (svcadm restart gdm), but i didn't get
into gnome.

Next I tried:

$ su
Password:
# /usr/X11/bin/Xorg -configure
# /usr/X11/bin/xinit /usr/bin/dbus-launch gnome-session -- \
        /usr/X11/bin/Xorg -config /jack/xorg.conf.new :0

Now it seems Gnome is firing up...first I see some messed up graphics and after
a while a gray/blank screen (vertical lines) and a black cross (which I can
move by moving the mouse). Nothing happens after this (I waited for 20 minutes
or so).

I attached the xorg.conf, the xorg log and the Sun Device Detection output (in
here you can see that I have a ATI radeon x300 in this box and the radeon
driver is specified in the xorg.conf.new file. I also tried using the VESA
driver, but this gives the same result.

I've worked for some time now with OpenSolaris at work and I really would like
to use it at home also!

Thnx in advance!
