Philo. Try typing in:

pfexec chmod 666 menu.lst

instead of 

sudo chmod 666 menu.lst 

and see if it works.

You can also just type in this command:

 su

and then enter in the root password and become root. That's the old UNIX way of 
doing things and it should work on every UNIX-like operating system.
