Ben, I would look at the OpenSolaris Hardware compatibility list at http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/
However, I've had real good luck with the Maxwell chipset. I would think the Intel chipset would be well supported. I've had mixed luck with the Sil based boards, but I haven't tried them in a long time.
