> Silly me. > I assumed it was installed by default :) > AFAIK, being meant to fit on a LiveCD, OpenSolaris (the distro) is pretty stripped down, although it's easy enough to install more stuff from a repository, assuming you have a reasonably fast Internet connection.
One can't please everybody, and I suspect it's a waste of time to even try... although I suppose someone _could_ create a distro that was really just OpenSolaris but for a DVD image, with a lot more stuff already included and not needing to be downloaded and installed separately. Not sure how smart the installer is; whether it could readily be told how to handle multiple CDs/DVDs, etc. So some arrangements might require a more capable installer. Probably "most" people do have a decent Internet connection, and downloading ISOs and accessing repositories isn't a problem for them. For those for whom it is a problem, it would be nice to have a physical media based solution, i.e. ordering media (perhaps including a local copy of repository+server software that could, be used directly off the media or installed to a local system). Maybe that already exists, I don't follow all the different distros and such. Mostly I use SXCE, although I do have a copy of 2008.11 under VirtualBox just to look at... -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
