I installed OpenSolaris 2009.06 on VMware but ran into issues when attempting to install the VMware tools. It complains about not being able to copy the video driver, and I think this is because the VMware tools includes drivers for up to version 7.1 of X, but OSol 2009.06 uses version 7.4. The install script identifies this and tries to find a 7.4 driver but fails. The result is that standard svga driver remains in use, which means lower performance but more importantly no integration with the host.
I did find that if I install 2008.11 first, the VMware tools install fine. Then I upgraded to 2009.06 using package manager, and all the drivers still worked just fine. It appears to be an issue unique to installing 2009.06 fresh. I am using VMware Workstation 6.5 which was just downloaded, so the included tools should be the latest available.
