OK, I'm basically replying to myself. Brought the laptop home, changed
the static IP's to match my home network, it works. Must have a bad
cable at work. Installed iwk wireless and it's working good (after
figuring out the key combination how to turn it on). Still one slight
problem. When I click on the network monitor on the status bar (panel),
if I have iwk0 active and I click on "configure", it pops up with the
configure menu's. But, if I have rge0 selected, then click on
"configure" I still get the error message

    "The interface does not exist
Check that it is correctly typed and that it
is correctly supported by your system"

But the copper network is working. Why doesn't it configure?
