Hello,

I am having a very strange problem. I read earlier about somebody having
Solaris do a core dump, but that's not happening here. Here are the computer
specs:

SunOS cartman 5.11 snv_79a i86pc i386 i86pc
CPU: 2 x 4 core Xeon
Memory: 16gb
Motherboard: Supermicro X7DWN+
SATA card: Supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 64-bit PCI-X133MHz SATA Controller Card
2 mirrored 250gb drives for boot, 6 1tb drives for raidz2. Boot drives and 2
1tb drives on motherboard bus, other 4 1tb drives on the SATA card.

And here's what happened

dd if=/dev/zero bs=20480 of=/export/home/admin count=1048576

And in another terminal session, I ran:

iostat 1

At first, everything ran fine. But at about 14gb into the write, suddenly the
traffic on all SATA busses went to 0.

I tried executing a command and it stopped responding. Then I ctrl-c'd out of
iostat and tried to type reboot but nothing happened. Basically anything that
caused the system to try to do an SATA I/O read would block. I looked at the
console and there were no visible errors. I finally had to hard reboot the
machine. Of course no crash dump since it didn't technically crash.

Any thoughts on what causes this and how I could remedy it?

Thanks!

Ray
