Yes, there are 32 and 64 bit binaries, etc. However, the distributions
figure it out, and you'll get the right kernel running. It correctly
runs a Prescott2m P4 system as 64 bit, and even turns on HTT to do SMP.

Well, maybe. That's the easiest one to deal with, but I wouldn't use
it for a server - it's going to install a desktop, whether you want it
or not. The Solaris Express Community Edition - a bit further down the
page - will let you install without that (that's the route I took; the
2008.05 box was built from spare parts so I can play with that
distribution). The downside is that it's not a complete OSS system; it
includes proprietary bits that aren't in the OpenSolaris source tree.

Yes. Both the 2008.05 iso and the SXCE use GRUB to boot from. Details
on setting it up depend on what you want to dual boot.
