Firstly let me admit that I am a complete novice with OpenSolaris. I wanted to
try and run the Live CD on my Intel iMac because I have a lot of respect for
SUN and wanted to see what Solaris was all about. I had previously managed to
successfully boot live CD's of a number of Linux distros without any
complications so the risk seemed very low.

I managed to boot up 2008.05 without a hitch and have to say it looked good,
nice clean desktop, and considering it was running from the DVD drive ran very
fast.

The problems arose however, when I tried to re-boot into OS X. It seems that
although I was neither asked permission, nor did I at any time ask Solaris, to
write anything to any of my drives the live CD overwrote the partition table of
my external LaCie d2 750Gb hard drive. Whilst I never doubted that my data was
in danger, it did cause a lot of distress and I now find myself faced with a
bill to sort out the partitions as I lack both the experience and time to try
and sort it out.

I would just like really to post a warning that this can happen.
