If the Laptop does not have a serial port, get a USB-to-RS232 converter.
Plug the serial cable (null modem cable) directly between this and the Netra
T1.  Those pale blue cables you get with every Cisco switch works well (RJ45
connector on one end, Standard 9-pin connector on the other end)

What Operating System on the laptop?

If Solaris or OpenSolaris or Solaris Express, you can use
tip -9600 /dev/term/a

For Linux, get minicom, for Windows you're on your own, but most people make
do with hyperterm.

The default settings you need on the netra T1 management port is 9600 baud,
8, N, 1.

How you send a break signal depends on what software you're using.
