I misread your original post, reading your installation as being Solaris Express, and I expect that Dennis did also. There is no Motif for OpenSolaris and openMotif will fail to build also due to having SUNWxwinc short-changed in its contents. I haven't been able to find the Xaw header files in OpenSolaris either although /usr/X11/lib/libXaw.so.8 is in there. You should have no problem installing teTeX or, better, texlive on Solaris Express. Note that teTeX is no longer being maintained. This message posted from opensolaris.org
