I also had issues with a PCI Realtek card (10/100Mbit) on both OpenSolaris and 
SX(D)(C)E.
Occasionally I lost connection, especially during file transfers.
Did you try Solaris 10 (in UFS)? Since that one worked fine for me.
I'm also wondering what the difference is between the network drivers on in 
Solaris 10 and the other Solaris OS.
