Hello,

I am a complete Newbiew. Got the OpenSolaris disk in the post and booted it,
and it's not working. Bot this message:

warning /pci at 0,0/pci1565,3206 at 10,4/storage at 8/disk at 0,0 (sd0):

scsi transport failed: reason 'timeout': retrying command.

It just hangs, and nothing happens. What should I do?

I have a x64 VIA900 with Celeron 1,8GHz and 1G ram.

Please help. Thanks

Dave.

PS: If anybody can point me to a downloadable manual or FAQ would appreciate
it.

Hello Dave,

The above error usually indicates a bad hard disk drive.

Are you sure the computer is working? In particular are you sure the hard
drive cable is healthy, disk connection is seated well, and that the Hard Disk
Drive and the Hard Disk controller are fully functional?

Actually, on second thought, this is possibly a complaint about the CD-Rom
drive, its connection, or its controller - you were not clear about how far you
get with this. so I assume the above error is all you get? No GUI or questions
about language/keyboard, etc?

Do you have another computer one which you can try the disk? Did you get a
good download (were you able to confirm the image checksum before you burned it
to disk?)

Do you have another hard drive and/or CD-Rom / DVD drive to test in this
computer?

Any more details you can provide about this problem will help us help you!

Regarding the question about documentation:

There are more documents at docs.sun.com than you can read in several life
times. However they are well indexed and organized. You can download single
books or entire collections.

Hope this helps!
