Hello!

This would be my first post on this forum. Having dealt a lot with Solaris in
the good old days I thought I'd try and see what you can do with Opensolaris 11
and ZFS.

So far I have come up with one annoying little snag that I would like to fix if
possible. We use almost only HP Proliant servers and Opensolaris does not have
native support for the built-in SmartArray controllers. HP has a driver
package for Solaris 10 but I cannot for my life successfully add those drivers
to the running LiveCD.

I can install the driver package but it wants to reboot to activate it and
since it is a LiveCD... I also tried to manually modload the driver file but
that only gets me a "no such device or address" error.

I know the driver works because we have managed to install Opensolaris 2008.05
on a SAN disk and then installed the driver package on top of that and once
rebooted the built in disks show up. I have also managed to move the
installation from the SAN disk to the internal disks using ZFS mirroring and
now we have a system that flawlessly boots from the internal controller.

Still it would be nice if I could get the LiveCD to work. What have I missed?
The "no such device or address" message would indicate that the kernel needs
some data to match PCI IDs or something. If I can get the disks online I can
install the drivers to the new root with "pkgadd -r".

Best regards,

/Erik
