My experience was similar. OpenSolaris didn't load the proper drivers for my cd drive, even though it's an old one. I received tons of warnings and some errors before the gui loaded, and when it finally did it was dreadfully slow. The fix for my problem was included in a build made after the latest main version of OpenSolaris was released.
Try downloading the ISO for build 98 from http://dlc.sun.com/torrents/info/ The image is over 700 MB so I had to burn it to a dvd instead of a cd, but it did the trick. Let me know if it works. Treb -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
