Check out this guy's blog: http://darkstar-solaris.blogspot.com/2008/09/zfs-root-mirror.html
It's pretty awesome. Copy and paste the results of a "zpool status" command and of a "pfexec format" command in this thread and I bet we can figure out what the magic words are that you have to type in at the command line to make this work (after the format command shows the available disks, hit CTRL key plus the C key to exit). The whole point of ZFS is that you don't have to fiddle around with those BS hardware RAID cards anymore and you don't need that custom RAID / LVM format thing going on like you need with Linux software RAID either, although FreeBSD and Linux software RAID is still pretty awesome. Trust me, I've paid $$$ for some of those Adaptec and 3ware cards before and they are pure baloney, they will silently corrupt your data without even letting you know about it, plus I think it's even possible to prove mathematically that those hardware RAID cards will run slower than software RAID if you have a good CPU like an AMD Opteron or an Intel DuoCore with 2 gigs of RAM. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
