I don't see any big differences with the 'init 5' command, at least not if you're using it only for a desktop. With one of my computers I had another issue during shutdown:not powering off automatically. At the point the computer reboots after 'init 6' it sometimes doesn't power off after 'init 5'. This issue became worse with the latest kernel Solaris 10 (5/08) as compared to (8/07). This message posted from opensolaris.org
