I am so embarrassed. It was indeed the cable. I switched the cable and it worked!!
The only reason I did not try this is because when the machine was going through POST, the port on the router did light up. It then went off as the OS was booting up. That, with the entry in the messages file, made me believe that for some reason, the driver was getting removed from the kernel. Thank you for the pointer. --Pradeep _____ From: Steven Acres [mailto:ad...@swatteksystems.com] Sent: Tuesday, October 06, 2009 11:08 PM To: Pradeep Subramaniam Cc: opensolaris-help at opensolaris.org Subject: Re: [osol-help] Unable to get the machine on the net On Tue, Oct 6, 2009 at 10:48 PM, Pradeep Subramaniam <pradeep at subramaniam.com> wrote: I am new to OpenSolaris. Just installed a SunFire V20z with OpenSolaris 2009.06. Installation went through fine, but the bge 100/1000 NIC do not connect to the router. It is a Broadcom chipset, BCM5704CKRB. TIA. Does the router provide DHCP? The message about in.ndpd can be ignored .. that's IPV6 *unless of course if you need IPV6 ..* ifconfig bge0 will display more info on that interface. And of course you have checked your cabling .. -- Cheers, Steven ----------------------- Steven Acres Toronto OpenSolaris User Group <TOROSUG> Leader http://opensolaris.org/os/project/torosug -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
