I recevied several private replies, and I am posting the following that 
summarizes the answers:

"No open source drivers exists for most Sun legacy graphic card
cards like the Expert 3D. The last SXCE build may be snv_126
so you won't get these updates for long.

Also, Sun is moving to Xorg so XSun and most XSun legacy drivers is under legacy
support (i.e. meaning support contract).

The replacement for any Sun legacy workstations is a PC 
workstation/laptop/desktop
similar in specs to the Sun Ultra 27 workstation with an Nvidia card (G70 or
better). If you have to stick with SPARC DVDs, then having a copy of Solaris 10
10/09 SPARC and SXCE b126 SPARC (when available) is the best option for you 
RIGHT now."
