Hello!

I am in the process of getting a used SPARC based server for an application
that will not run on x86 if I also want to run Solaris. The application in
question is Lotus Domino and the objective is to use ZFS to in effect create a
disk based incremental backup solution.

A local supplier has a few Sun boxes on the shelf - a few V240's, a V890 and a
pretty well-specced V480 (aka 480R). However, having a look at the Opensolaris
HCL, there is no mention of explicit support for the SUNW,Sun-Fire-480R but
there is for V490, V880, V890, V240 and more. The V480 is mentioned in the
Sol10 HCL though.

I downloaded the installer the CD and had a look in /platform/. There is a
SUNW,Sun-Fire-480R directory and there are several other platforms that are
symlinked to that directory (such as the V490 which was explicitly supported by
OpensSolaris):

drwxr-xr-x  4 erik  staff  2048 18 Maj 00:44 SUNW,Sun-Fire-480R
lrwxrwxrwx  1 erik  staff    18 18 Maj 00:44 SUNW,Sun-Fire-V490 ->
SUNW,Sun-Fire-480R

My gut tells me that "it should work" but is there something that I don't know?

Thanks,

/Erik
