Both can do the job. Opensolaris is easier to get support from the community. Also commercial support is available. Solaris might be more "standard" on certain hardware, such as sun branded hardware. It might be more supportable in some situations. Neither one is better. You'll just have to make up your mind. I would suggest experimenting with both, and exploring your support options for both.
