My box is an old HP ML110G3 (http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/proliantml110/specifications-g3.html) which I think has the ich7 chipset so I guess that it makes sense. This box was running FreeBSD 6.3 for about 4 years with the boot device set from raid and the raid configured in jbod. When I installed opensolaris I had to completely disable the raid boot because it would not see any drives.
