I have INSYDE H2O UEFI. Unfortunately not only did Acer decide to disable all UEFI features, they also decided to make the BIOS part as featureless as possible(therefore I have no Intel SpeedStep settings in BIOS). One of their default settings is to disable Intel virtualization support. This caused significant anger on the side of the users, because Acer made it so that it is very difficult to find out if the computer has VT enabled or not before purchasing it.
The BIOS appears to have two parts. One part which holds the BIOS code and another part which holds settings. When new version of BIOS is installed, the settings part is overwritten. Freedom fighters have been trying to enable the VT setting in BIOS for some time and one of them has had some success http://marcansoft.com/blog/2009/06/enabling-intel-vt-on-the-aspire-8930g/ After some development, the made a python program which modifies the settings part of the uncompressed BIOS image. It changes the byte which holds default Intel VT settings from 0 to 1. After that using the BIOS flashing program, modified BIOS is installed, and VT works. I am currently using the newest version of BIOS available for my computer. I think that speedstep is working on other operating systems. I haven't used GNU/Linux for a while, but I'm certain that processor frequency used to decrease on light load. It is also appears to be working on windows. I made a dump of ACPI tablesand am going to submit a bug now. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
