I think what might have happened is that you have an ATI card and you connected your notebook to an LCD TV. The current ATI driver is defaulted to mirror-screen mode, and it downgraded the resolution of your main monitor to that your LCD TV (which I believe is 800 x 600). At the present time, I don't think there is any way to reset the resolution (I believe someone once said, bugs in software are just like tax and death, blah, blah, ...) You might have to disable the proprietary ATI driver, reboot and recover your resolution, then reload the driver. OpenSolaris does not have the proprietary ATI driver, at least not yet.
