Hi,

i am trying to install from osol-0906-x86.iso
onto CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 620 Quad-Core
mainboard: GIGABYTE GA-MA74GM-S2H AM2 GLAN RAID.
with on-board graphics.

The boot process ends up in text console mode.
"Console login service(s) cannot run"
"Enter user name for system maintenance."
(I can enter jack and become superuser.)

I found this description how to install by
remote X display
  http://dlc.sun.com/osol/docs/content/2009.06/getstart/tsboot.html
This imposes the problem that i do not understand
man ifconfig enough to set up the interface for
accessing the widely open system via LAN .
  ifconfig -a
shows only
  lo0 ... inet ...
  lo0 ... inet6 ...
But there is an ethernet attached and SSH works
fine when FreeBSD or Ubuntu Linux are booted.

How do i get the LAN interface running with
a particular IP address (v4) ?

Is there really no way to install on a machine
where Solaris cannot use the high-res graphics,
other than opening the unprotected system to
the network ?

The intended job of the installation is to port
libburn to Solaris and to bring the Solaris
"driver" of libcdio to the newest capability
level.
So i will need LAN and SSH but no GUI desktop.

I would also install a Solaris based distro
if it has the same SCSI transport interface as
Open Solaris. (A DVD image with complete GNU
software development would be nice.)

Any proposals are welcome.

Have a nice day :)

Thomas
