I have a laptop with windows Vista. When I use the Live CD to install on a
partition everything is fine except that the installer doesn't recognize the
active NTFS partition and so it doesn't show up in the grub menu. Opensolaris
runs fine but I can't boot Vista unless I use the grub command line from the
grub startup screen and run the commands:
grub>norootverify (hd0,0)
grub>makeactive
grub>chainloader +1
grub>boot
Windows then boots but that is the last time that I see the grub screen and I
can no longer boot into Opensolaris. I've installed this several times always
with the same results.
The Live CD is meant to recognize Windows but it doesn't. I'm pretty sure that
these grub commands could be added to some file in Opensolaris and I have
mucked around with menu.lst by adding the above commands preceded by:
title Windows Vista
but on boot I see the option of Windows Vista but when selecting it nothing
happens. If I check it by editing it from grub it just shows:
norootverify (hd0,0)
and leaves out the other lines.
I'm at my wits end and ready to give up.
Please, please help.
