in http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/tools/sun_studio_tools/ one gets 2 options to get SunStudio. The second one looks like the more desireable one. Under: "Sun Studio Compilers Download Alternatives" under: "Update Notice for Option 2" one is told that if the download occur AFTER sept. 24 2005 there is no need to warry about the patches.
I'm afraid this is not true. The cc compiler extracted under option 1 is not the same as the compiler exracted with option 2. Also the compiler of option 1 WORKS FINE were the compiler of option 2 DOES NOT. I did not try to apply the paches included in the tar files.
