Actually you need Solaris Express, based on Nevada, not 10. > Which are the differences between Solaris Express 10 and the > "standard" Solaris 10 distribution ? > > Can I build Opensolaris in Solaris 10 ? Not any more. A few months ago, it was possible if you used the Studio compiler. Since then, changes have been made requiring a more current build system; I believe it may be possible to build on SX build 14 or later with Studio and 22 or later with gcc, but I don't promise it. The downloads page says we require build 18 or later; the release notes state that you need 16. Sometimes the requirement for doing a build is different from the requirement for doing a BFU (i.e., you could build on 16 but you might need 22 or later on a machine you wish to BFU). These requirements change from time to time, so always follow the instructions in the release notes. They contain the latest information about build requirements. Your best bet, if for some incomprehensible reason you're dead-set against reading the notes, is to use the most recent available install image on all build and test machines. As for the differences between S10 FCS and NV build 24, they're too numerous to list here. You can check out Dan Price's blog for some of the highlights in SX and SXCR builds at http://blogs.sun.com/dp. You can also read the ON putback logs, which list the bugs/RFEs and ARC cases addressed by each putback; see http://opensolaris.org/os/community/onnv/onnv_putback_logs/. -- Keith M Wesolowski "Sir, we're surrounded!"
