I'm trying to install Solaris Express (Nevada build 33) x86 on an Opteron PC
with a Tyan Thunder KW8E S2895 motherboard. This is a pretty high-end dual
processor Opteron motherboard (it retails around $500 in the USA).
The odd thing is when it boots, is says:
SunOS Release 5.11 Version snv_33 32-bit
yet this is a 64-bit CPU. Is that right? Perhaps there is only 32-bit
distributed in Solaris Express. But things don't go too well:

\
it the hangs with the "\" rotating round at about 0.1 Hz. (i.e 10 seconds for
one complete revolution).
Anyone know what the 'WARNING: Failed to program IO space [0/1/1] [EMAIL
PROTECTED] length 0x20' relates to? I've tried turning everything off in the
BIOS (cache, USB, RAID), but it still gives the same error.
Hardware:
Tyan Thunder KW8E S2895 (model with SCSI controller, S2895UA2NRF)
Bios 1.03 on motherboard.
Single 64-bit single-core Opteron 248.
Gigabyte nvida 6600 PCI-express graphics card
HP DVD drive.
Sony Floppy.
DVD written with Nero on a Windoze XP pro PC (I don't have a DVD writer on my
Sun).
Apparently Solaris 10 03/05 HW1 upgrade (whatever that is) has installed on
one of these motherboards;

although the person that wrote that (Daniel Rock" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ) says in
a later post

that more recent versions are failing (he as tried I have tried Solaris 10
01/06, nv_27, nv_30, nv_33,
32 and 64 bit). Later he reported success with BIOS version 1.03, but I am
using that anyway. I'm not sure what version of Solaris he used though - I will
of course contact him.
Any thoughts? Anyone able to determine what that error message might refer to?
Since there are no md5 checksums on Sun's site for the downloads, I can't be
sure the downloaded images are correct. But this is what I have:
