I'm trying to boot linux through solaris grub.  The linux kernel looks like it's starting up, but then seems to get an error while trying to mount ext3 filesystem, and then the kernel crashes.  The linux kernel is standard Redhat linux 4.0 installed on a v40z (amd64).  Has anyone seen this before?

Did you install Solaris after Redhat? Did you edit Solaris' menu.lst afterwards?

Here's my menu.lst entry:

title Redhat
root (hd1,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.9-22.ELsmp ro root=LABEL/ rhgb quiet
initrd /initrd-2.6.9-22.ELsmp.img

BTW, the kernel boots fine if I boot from linux grub, but I have a special need for booting off solaris.

What does the grub menu file look like in Redhat?

FWIW, this is my Fedora entry in Solaris' menu.lst, had to add it manually after install SXCR b36:

title Fedora Core (2.6.15-1.1830_FC4smp )
        root (hd0,1)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.15-1.1830_FC4smp ro root=LABEL=/ rhgb quiet
        initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.15-1.1830_FC4smp.img

Do RL4.0's kernel and initrd live in / instead of /boot ?
