Hmm, the CD contains the 32-bit kernel only.  The installed OS
contains both 32-bit and 64-bit kernel modules.  And the 64-bit kernel
is the preferred kernel on 64-bit capable systems.

Is your box a 64-bit x86 box?

Note that some of the closed source drivers are 32-bit only.  For example
the syshisl driver, for the 53C896 scsi hba.  (Workaround: force booting
the 32-bit kernel)
