Thanks for the input...Thought perhaps the onnv-gate was pulling files from the 
Mercurial repository or caught in some kind of update loop.  Guess I'll let it 
run all-night and all-day...must be the disk IO. It is a SPARCUltra-IIe (sun4u) 
with 2GB of memory.
