I have to agree with the original poster. SUN's pricing on their workstations is not very competitive (if you compare it to building one yourself or even Dell). I don't buy the hardware quality argument either. I can buy the parts myself and built a system that has better individual parts with longer warranties. The SUN system may have a better overall engineered design and case even, but the lack of options and pricing is pretty bad. For example, no 10k RPM hard drive option (i.e. Western Digital Raptor). Also, the system configuration on the website is incredibly confusing. When you pick a system to customize it, it lists a set of items that you would assume is the base configuration. You would expect that below would be radio groups for you to change that base configuration, but you're really only adding on to the existing one (which gets very confusing). For example, if you select a processor in the customisation section, you're really *adding* a processor. However, it isn't clear that if you select a different video card if you're replacing or adding one. SUN's system customisation page makes no sense to me, whether that's because of how its presented, or because of the pricing, I'm not sure. Someone needs to fix it though. -Shawn This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-help mailing list [email protected]
