This may actually be a Solaris issue, I've been seeing similar things
with other apps, but had thought it was something I had caused.
Try:
xset +fp /usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/pcf
xset fp rehash
And then running studio (or whatever)
... Which is a workaround for:

Though the workarounds mentioned in the bug are probably better.
