I'm seeing the same thing with VMWare Server 1.0.1 on Ubuntu 6.06 and an ISO of 
Solaris Express b64a.  Grub, then the ".......", then a complaint about 
"disabling MPO because memory is interleaved", then "configuring /dev", then 
the VM powers off.  The VMWare log makes it fairly clear it's a VMWare problem, 
but I note it here for reference.
