How much memory is installed in the system? The "developer edition" needs at least 768mb main memory. You can also select the second entry "Solaris Express" (instead of "Solaris Express, Developer Edition") in the initial grub boot menu, which should work with less than 768mb of main memory. What kind of optical device are you using for the install? It is perhaps an external USB CD/DVD device?
