Hi, I have tested it this way, using a Solaris box as DHCP server and another Solaris box as DHCP client which used the hostname given by the server. I dont know which solaris version server and client were using at this time.
Now I am using a "LANCOM DSL/I-1611 office" where DHCP server and DNS server is enabled. If an linux or windows (XP,Vista) client requests an ip-address, the server sends all the information and takes the hostname from the client. The hostname is shown in the monitoring tool and is resolved by the DNS server on this router. If my Solaris system uses DHCP it gets all information but the name in the Servers monitoring tool is still blank and so the hostname can't be resolved by the DNS server.
