I think this is a known problem: http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-1259/installbugs-227?a=view#gcyss Possible workaround #1: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/solarisx86/message/43887 - option 6: Shell console - then type: install-solaris and the installer appears in text-mode! And another possible workaround, #2: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/solarisx86/message/43888 At the grub prompt, edit the "Solaris Express" menu entry by pressing "e", add a line before the the line starting with "kernel /boot/platform/..." by pressing "O" (uppercase) and "e" and add the command "uppermem 500000". uppermem 500000 kernel /boot/platform/i86pc/kernel/unix -B install_media=cdrom module /boot/x86.miniroot If you boot it like this, "prtconf" will report "Memory size: 489 Megabytes" and option 4 "Solaris Interactive Text (Console session)" won't install java any more.
