This is AshokKumar.G from NITK, India. I have been using linux
since 2001. Few months back I started working on Solaris.
But I got some problems with Solaris .The following are the problems I
got when I tried to install Solaris Express Developers
Edition. When I selected Solaris Express Developers Edition, it gave
me three options. Solaris interactive, Drivers update,
Jumpstart. I selected the Solaris Interactive i.e. option 1. Then it
took time for extracting windowing system and
setting up java. Then it shown me a message about the Graphics
support. The message is like I should give the answer
in 30 secs for the GUI installation like that. Then I pressed enter.
After some time (probably 2 mins) it shown me a
message like GUI installation can't proceed , I have to go for text
mode installation. And it asked me to select
Solaris Express for text mode. I selected solaris express of build 72,
then system hangs. Nothing happend.
I think 5 and half years back I installed Solaris in text mode. I
tried to do the same. But this time I didn't succeed.
Then I tried Solaris Express 10. I installed that but resolution

I have used the older version is Belenix and one more DVD. Those I
got from Moinak Ghosh. Two dvds one is install and open
is documents etc. I installed that in text mode. Then I rebooted my
system after the installation. It doesn't go to the
login screen. It rebooted automatically so many times after the step,
it will bring up the services based on selection
like x/92 or x/150 like that. After this step it shown me some
messages like dumping some memory etc. I took the snap shots
of that one, and I gave those to the SUN Ambassador for NITK in 2006.
I don't know what he has done with those. I posted
those in the forums also. After that I didn't get any message from
him(NITK Ambassador). Then I gone for Linux device driver
development for my friends uncle company.
I got a problem with net connection. I have a net connection from my
college. In the solaris Express 10, i gave the ip address,
subnetmask, default gateway, DNS servers etc. I am able to ping other
systems. But whenever if I use any server addresses like
www.sun.com or www.novell.com or any other valid am getting page can't
be displayed.
And am able to solve the same problems in linux by looking into
Linux source code and rebuilding the kernel. But am not able
to the same with Solaris.
My system configuration:
Processor : AMD Opteron 64bit 146 2GHz
Mother Board : GIGABYTE GA-K8N51PVMT-9
Graphics Card : On Board nVidia GeForce 6150 GPU
LAN CARD : On Board nVidia Gigabit LAN Card
Monitor : Samsung SyncMaster 510N LCD TFT with 1024x768
Max Resolution.
and remaining normal.
Help me out. I will expect for your reply.
