I am pretty new to opensolaris. I am used to all variants of linux (centos, slack, and debian and their forks, and happy with them). I am iattracted towards OpenSolaris for two reasons: 1) dtrace 2) zfs (I read that there are people who are porting zfs with fuse).
I am confused which variant is ideal to install: 1) SXDE 2) SXCE 3) LiveCDs (belenix, of course)? Whether the former is opensource (SXDE)? I received the OS starter kit but schillix does not boot in my hp pavilion zv6000 laptop and nexenta takes enourmous time. belenix (I am typing) in 32bit mode works without acpi. I could not find authentic documents how to configure networks, zfs (I doubt that the live cds have zfs but they seem to have ufs), diskless booting and so on. Where can I find them? I also wonder whether containers are equivalent to the virtualiztion like openvz/virtuozzo or linux v-server? In belenix there is an icon for thunar file manager but it fails to launch (no child processes). Could anyone tell me where can I find the relevant documentation hidden behind gui and also information about clustering, voip, virtualization and diskless booting etc.? Thanking you in advance, This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-help mailing list [email protected]
