Tomas, In addition to what Brian suggested, check that you've included " dns" after "files" on the "hosts" line of /etc/nsswitch.conf and that you have valid dns entries in /etc/resolv.conf
As for installing only the console (i.e. not installing the unwanted GUI bits) you should look into the SUNWCrnet metacluster. Solaris gets installed based on one of selected metaclusters (package groups) that you choose at install time. It is one of essential enablers for building minimized installations, providing you with flexibility to add desired packaged software on top of it. There's also a Solaris Package Companion project that will likely be of interest & help to you.
