Andrew,
I installed Solaris Developer Preview on my second hard drive; it was
the third OS installed (Linux and BSD the others). My Linux grub.conf
shows an entry for each, with the Solaris one looking like:

title OpenSolaris
        rootnoverify (hd1,0)
        chainloader +1

When I select the OpenSolaris item on the menu, it takes me to its own
grub menu, which only has OpenSolaris; but it boots upon selection. I
have no separate boot partition. The Linux grub was installed to MBR,
I don't recall what or if I directed OpenSolaris to do. Hope this
helps.
        T.
