No, I was never asked for a root password.  That's what happens with
user administration, but in this case it just hangs.

By the way, on the Open Solaris forums page, it says opensolaris-help
is for installation issues only.  I've already installed SXDE and am
running fine with it - should I still use opensolaris-help?
