Help :) please
I'm following these instructions: http://wiki.tardis.ed.ac.uk/index.php/OpenSolaris_Xen_domU ("Xen domU running under a Linux dom0" - based on Nevada build 66) But I can't install build 77 from dvd iso, due to this bug: http://bugs.opensolaris.org/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6627899 http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/xen/docs/relnotes/ ("Build 77 xVM guests fail to install due to changes in hsfs in 77" - the bug doesnt affect previous/later builds, like 76 or 78) Workaround: Use netinstall, not ISO or DVD media. My question: How do I perform a network install with a Linux Dom0? Additional information: I've only been able to find instructions on how to do this (network installation) from a Solaris (dom0), with some virt-install thing. No Linux instructions. The closest thing I've found resembling useful information, is this link: http://blogs.sun.com/shalon/entry/a_summary_of_creation_of , where a DomU python configuration file is shown at "2) Jumpstart net install a solaris nevada PV domU by xm" And regarding that Jumpstart thing (which I don't really understand), I found this bit of -perhaps- useful information: http://blogs.cae.tntech.edu/mwr/2007/10/31/solaris-jumpstart-installations-in-an-all-debian-environment/ ("Solaris Jumpstart Installations In An All-Debian Environment") ... although I don't think he's using OpenSolaris. Anyways, I just cant wrap my head around this. Any suggestions? Even more additional information: Dom0 is Linux (Slackware 12.0, Xen 3.1 with PAE disabled) Hardware is not HVM compatible. Single-core x86 (Pentium 4 Northwood, Intel motherboard), 1 GB ram. Its a remote server that I'm ssh'ing to. I can have physical access though. I've tried mounting the ISO and exporting it through NFS at Dom0, and then doing things like this in the DomU config file: extra = '/platform/i86xpv/kernel/unix - nowin -B install_media=192.168.0.100:/export/build77/boot' and root = '/dev/nfs' nfs_server = '192.168.0.100' nfs_root = '/export/build77/boot' , and all sorts of other things, but I havn't been able to figure it out. Unfortunately, there's only 3 builds available for download: OpenSolaris Developer Preview ("Indiana" dated 31 Oct. 2007) Solaris Express Community Edition ("Nevada" build 77) Solaris Express Developer Edition ("Nevada" build 70b) (I understand that Indiana is based on Nevada build 75) Build 75 and upwards appears to be what I'd really want, according to this: http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/xen/ But, I figured, the instructions was based on build 66, so I tried with build 70b... well, there's no i86xpv folder in the iso. I've tried with Indiana dated 31 Oct 2007... didn't work... and there's already a thread on that here: http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=46419&tstart=0 Searched like crazy for a download link for build 75a and 76, but couldn't find any :( I'd really appreciate it if Sun made previous ISO's available for download. I'm somewhat familiar with PXE/NFS etc. be course I've set up a (Linux) server for PXE/NFS boot and installation of slackware. Perhaps a few changes and I could be serving up a Solaris installation? All I can do now, it seems, is wait for the next build/ISO, or... do this: wipe the harddrive, install Solaris (dom0), create a Solaris DomU, then wipe the Dom0 partition and install Linux (Dom0). What a workaround... This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-help mailing list [email protected]
